This landscape installation project undertaken in Mountvale, New Jersey, entailed removing a narrow and unsightly concrete sidewalk leading to the front entrance and creating new landscaped garden beds with a flowing and arcing pathway. The use of hardscaping pavers was to be designed into the landscape plan to create a themed garden layout which would add to the overall appearance of the residence and provide an inviting sense to all visitors and guests.
The original area along the front of the home at the far side of the property was comprised of little more than two overgrown and old shrubs within
a sparsely planted 3 foot wide bed that followed the contour around the home and ended slightly behind the home along the side.
A two foot wide bed of liriope grasses planted 12 inches apart ran the entire length of the walkway in a straight linear bed that did little to enhance the home's appearance. Shrubbery grew over the walkway in certain areas making it difficult and at times unsafe for visitors to the residence when approaching the front entrance to the home.
With the removal of the sidewalk and the liriope bed (the liriope being retained for perennial planting within the newly established landscape beds) the entire front of the residence was now wide open. Within this area an S-shaped arcing walkway was designed to provide a flowing and welcoming approach to the residence.
The liriope, which would provide seasonal color was planted in masses in the newly established landscape beds. With the addition perennial plantings of Sedum "autumn joy" and Astilbe "false spirea" and the plantings of Vinca "periwinkle" and Impatiens, seasonal color was provided to enhance the garden layout and add foliage and various plant textures within the landscape design.
Whereas before the sidewalk just went to the front steps to the residence,
a larger landing or "garden sitting area" was established by providing an area in which to place a sitting bench that complemented the white backdrop along the property line; thereby providing an area in which owners could entertain and/or converse and relax with visitors and/or guests.
The bed that before just followed the home, was now a lush and colorful garden bed full of perennials, flowering shrubs and annuals providing color, nectar for butterflies and nesting places for
birds and local wildlife which could be enjoyed in a peaceful and serene garden setting by all.
Overall time from onset to completion for this project was four days from the initiation of the landscape design plan. Additional information about Almost Perfect Landscaping's Design and Build Projects can be obtained by calling us at (201) 387-8608.
